Matthew A. Wrigley's Obituary
Matthew A. “Matt” Wrigley, 52, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in St. Mary’s Hospital after a long battle with lung disease and cancer.
Matt was born October 5, 1956 in Decatur the son of Robert and Esther Irene McGrath Wrigley and a twin to Christopher. A graduated from MacArthur High School and went into Local 146 IBEW apprenticeship. He received his journeyman ticket and made his life career in the trade. Matt was disabled and retired early in 2005. He was a member of Saints James & Patrick Catholic Church and IBEW Local 146. He loved to fish and hunt mushrooms. He married Dian Grove May 21, 1996 in Decatur.
Surviving is his wife, Dian of Decatur; daughter, Heather Wrigley and son, Jay Wrigley both of Decatur; stepdaughter, Ashley Todd Skelton of Mt. Pulaski; stepsons: Heath Tamara Miller of Dallas, TX. and Seth Maria Miller of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Akyra Bradfield of Decatur; step-grandchildren: Garrett Skelton, Grant Skelton, Griffin Skelton, Tristan Miller, Camden Miller, Ethan Miller and Alyssa Miller; father, Robert Wrigley of Decatur; sisters: Mary Larry King and Melinda O’Brien of Decatur; brothers: Mike Ruth Wrigley of Riverton, Bob Wrigley, Steve Linda Wrigley and Jim Becky Wrigley of Decatur, Tom Betty Wrigley of Nebraska and Chris Robin Wrigley of Decatur; sister-in-law, Jackie Wrigley of Decatur; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a vigil prayer service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 pm. Sunday, May 17, 2009 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
Matt was the most devoted and loving husband, father, stepfather and friend. Always willing to help anyone whether friend or stranger. He had a great love of music, animals and walking in the woods and enjoying God’s gift of nature. He truly will be missed by many family members and friends. Rest with God and know we all love you Matt.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rademacher, Dr. Esparaz, Dr. Velasco and the entire staff at Cancer Care for the care and concern given to Matt and his family during this most difficult time.
Matt was preceded in death by his mother and brother, John Wrigley.
