Max W. Waltrip's Obituary
Max W. Waltrip, 89, of Decatur, died Friday October 10, 2008 in Aspen Ridge Care Centre.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5 ' 8 pm Tuesday and 9 ' 10 am Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be 2:30 pm Wednesday in Kickapoo Cemetery, in rural Charleston. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
Max was born on October 12, 1918 in Charleston, IL, son of Charles Otto and Nettie Morgan Waltrip. He was a member of West Church of the Nazarene of Decatur. He served as a board member and Sunday school teacher at several Nazarene churches in Illinois. He was a member of Farm Bureau and a former member of the Rotary in Marshall, IL. He worked for FS in Livingston, Franklin, Jefferson, Clark, and Macoupin counties. Retiring from Corn Belt FS in Decatur. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII in the European theater receiving many honors including the Bronze Star. He enjoyed playing pool, golfing, bowling and woodworking. He married Ruth Ellen Cottingham on September 20, 1941 in St. Charles, MO.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Waltrip; sons, Ron Waltrip Diane of Springfield; Gary Waltrip Beverly of Decatur; daughter, Janet S. Green of Wheaton; brother, Fred Waltrip Doris of Texas; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and one daughter.
