Merle E. Roughton's Obituary
Merle E. Roughton, 85, of Decatur, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Aspen Ridge Care Centre.
Merle was born May 1, 1922, in Mayview, the son of Oren Kenneth and Helen Mae Taylor Roughton. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War, Merle worked as an automotive service manager. He was affiliated with Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion and 14th Cavalry Assoc. He was also a member and past president of the Veterans 106th Cavalry Group Assoc. and Kaskaskia Valley Bass Club. Merle volunteered for the Boy Scouts Troop #202 and fished in several professional bass fishing tournaments. He married Carol D. Clark December 9, 1961 in Paxton and she preceded him in death March 11, 2007.
He is survived by his daughters: Jean Jeff Hutton of Glenarm and Lisa Dan DeVore of Oakley; siblings: Madge Mullinax of Paxton, Jack Shirley Roughton of Urbana, Mary Bob Riggs and Nancy Pridemore of Florida, and Terry Judith Roughton of California; grandchildren: Casey, Ryan, Anthony, Jacob, Jesse, Corey, Braden, Alyssa and Allyson; great grandson, Connor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; daughter, Sandra Kay Belscamper and brother, Kenneth “Butch” Roughton, Jr.
Funeral services will be 11 am. Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton. Memorials: Danville VA Hospital.
