Mervin "Mert" Lloyd Kinert's Obituary
Mervin “Mert” L. Kinert, 90, of Decatur, passed away June 27, 2015 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mert was born April 29, 1925 in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois, the son of Herman and Bessie (Vandevender) Kinert. He graduated from Mt. Pulaski High School in 1943 and joined the US Navy the same year. After WWII, he was employed by A.E. Staley Co., where he worked as an estimator until retiring in 1985. He married Kathryn Travis in 1949. Kathryn preceded him in death in 1981. Mert married Mildred Kennedy in 1983. Millie preceded him in death in 2015.
For many years, Mert had a small farm in Lovington. He loved playing golf and watching the Cubs with Millie. Mert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and an active member of Elks Lodge #401, American Legion Post 105 and the Grasshoppers.
Mert leaves behind four children, Jim (Jane) Kinert of Ozark, MO, Gail (Phil) Pignon of Poulsbo, WA, Dave (Julie) Kinert of Lovington, Robin (Rich) Fierce of Woodruff, SC; step-daughters, Jane (Ken) Ginder of Punta Gorda, FL and Nancy (Lee) Vancil of Naples, FL; six grandchildren, Lauren, Wyatt, Josiah, Gordon, Allison and Eric; and two great-grandchildren.
Mert was preceded in death by his parents; a half-sister, Adele, and a half-brother, Floyd.
Services to celebrate the life of Mert Kinert will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church.
