Michael "Larry" Klugman's Obituary
Decatur – Michael “Larry” Klugman, 74, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Larry was born April 15, 1942 in Champaign the son of Samuel W. and Edna F. (Logue) Klugman. Larry was a founding faculty member at Richland Community College and was Professor Emeritus and adjunct professor. In fact, Larry was in the classroom the day before his illness.
Larry served his community in many different service clubs and organizations including past president of the Decatur Celebration. Often times, Larry would be called on to give lectures regarding national and local political races as well as his favorite subject “Titanic.” Larry had a great deal of knowledge about the Titanic including the number of dining room tables, silverware, deck chairs, life boats, etc. and he would point out that the sinking took place April 14-15, which April 15 is the month and day of his birth. Finally, Larry was a proud member of “The Romeo Club” and enjoyed his time with his many friends and associates from years back.
Larry leaves behind many cousins. He will also be missed by his adopted families which are: Steve and Linda Wrigley/Hotwick family, Dr. Larry and Nancy Osborne family and Lance and Ann Lercher family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Joe Allen Klugman and Aunt Lola Farley.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be 2 p.m., Friday January 6, 2017, in Shilling Auditorium at Richland Community College. In lieu of flowers memorial are suggested to Larry Klugman Scholarship Fund c/o Richland Community College Foundation. Private burial will take place next to his parents in Maplewood Cemetery in Rantoul Illinois.
