Michael C. Prince's Obituary
Decatur - Michael (“Mike”) Conway Prince of Decatur, Illinois passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025. He was 97 years old.
Mike was born on August 5, 1928, in Taylorville, Illinois to William E. and Mary (“Mamie”; née Conway). He entered the Army in 1950 to serve in the Korean Conflict, where he was a Corporal in Company B of the 245th Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1952. He married Angeline (“Angie”) Grosso on October 25, 1952, in Decatur, Illinois. In 1956, they purchased a one-acre parcel on the west side of Decatur, where he built a house for them. That same year he joined Caterpillar Tractor Company, where he worked for 30 years in materials distribution and inventory control. He retired in 1986. Before and after his retirement, he continually worked on projects around their home. He designed and constructed a 30-foot swing with bus seats as seating, a 3-tier water fountain, and a cast-concrete grill with a pagoda-style roof, just to name a few. He enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens but mostly loved the life he built with his beloved Angie. He passed away two days shy of what would have been their 73rd anniversary.
Mike will be greatly missed by his daughter, Michele (Joseph) O’Connor. He is also survived by his grandsons Patrick, Daniel (Micayla), and Brendan O’Connor, of whom he was very proud, as well as his brother-in-law, Pete (Jane) Grosso, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his cherished Angie, parents, and siblings: Norman Richard, William Dane, Sina Marie, Daisy Lindsey, Mary Shuff Harshman, and Patrick.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, with a Funeral Liturgy immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery in Decatur.
