Michel L. Cowger, 70, of Decatur died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Big Mike had a peaceful departure from this life and crossed over to Glory with a smile to be with his Lord and Savior and was reunited with his wife, son, grandchildren, brother and parents. He was surrounded by family and friends, who Prayed over him and sang Spiritual Hymns the last few hours of his life.
Mike was born on February 20, 1940 in Decatur the son of Earl Clifford and Amanda Marie Hibbs Cowger. He was a Veteran of the US Army, retired from truck driving, a member of the Teamsters Local 279 and a member of Resurrection Life Church. He married Sandra K. Kennedy on March 5, 1977 she preceded him in death on November 21, 2009.
Mike was a big kid at heart, he loved Christmas and giving. He adored his grandchildren and wanted to share with them his love of Model Planes but especially Model Trains. His greatest hobby was turning his garage into mountain scenes where his trains would race around. He also formerly loved to camp, fish and hang out at the House of Donuts while visiting with everyone over coffee. Mike had a big heart and all were invited into it, stranger or known, he loved people and he will be greatly missed by everyone, but especially by his daughters who admired so much his dedication to family, his hard work and sacrifice; who in remembering his big strong hands, that by them created beauty, administered discipline and caressed love, we will miss you Daddy – Bunny, Tammy, Donna, & Barbie.
