Mitzi Cooper's Obituary
Mitzi Sampson Cooper entered the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, December 18th at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her father, James Sampson on the same date thirty-three years earlier.
Mitzi was born in Taylorville, Illinois on July 11th, 1956, and was known as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her many grandchildren, and took on a grand-mothering role to her many great nieces and nephews. Mitzi was a homemaker for most of her life, enjoying time gardening, sewing, crafting, and camping. Being involved in various native heritage events in and around Shelbyville, Il. was important to her in staying connected to her community. She was well-known for caring for others outside of the family, lending a helping hand whenever needed.
Mitzi was an expert at canning and having a plethora of homemade recipes she has generously shared with loved ones. Mitzi’s family describes her best-known dishes as her famous sweet tea and refrigerator pickles. Her favorite way to pass the time was sitting on her porch, visiting with family and friends discussing anything and everything. Mitzi was also a member of the local Lady’s Auxiliary and attended First Christian Church of Moweaqua during her later years.
Mitzi married Brian Cooper on October 4th, 1986, and together have two children, Hannah Cooper of Liberty, TX. and James William Cooper of Decatur, IL. She is survived by her husband, children, and seven grandchildren: Robert, Padge, Mahala, Gabriella, William Farmer, Cayson Doty, and James Cooper, Siblings Terri Sampson (Paul Lieb) of Shelbyville, IL, Cheri Young of Taylorville, IL, and James ‘Jim’ Sampson (Jan Sampson) of Pleasant Plains, IL.
At the publishing of this obituary, Mitzi’s mother, Virginia ‘Jennie’ Ruth Sampson, has also gone to be with the Lord.
