Morton Keith Greene's Obituary
Morton “Keith” Greene, 87, lifelong Decatur resident, passed away July 1, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.
Keith was born February 1, 1922, in Kirksville, son of Oliver Morton and Cecile Kidwell Greene. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1941, having attended three schools: Roach, Johns Hill, and Decatur High. He was inducted into the Army in 1941. He was proud to have served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 96th Division of the 382nd Infantry “Deadeyes” in Leyte, Philippines, and was decorated with two bronze stars. He came home in 1946, and married Doris Gordon on June 30, 1947, and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Together, they were members of Prairie Avenue Christian Church, and there he served as a Deacon Emeritus. He also belonged to the American Legion 105, and was an avid Cardinals fan. He worked as a meat cutter and market manager for Eisner Foods, Jewel Tea, Tolly’s Market, and finally retired from Earl’s Eisner’s Agency.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Doris; two children, Rodney K. Greene Trish; Melinda Shookman Brian; daughter-in-law, Cinda Greene; six grandchildren, Angela Bullock; Matthew Greene; Zachery Greene; Lucas Greene; Benjamin Bullock; Justin Greene; and four great grandchildren, Zoey; Tori; Tiavi; and Demi.
Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gordon Max Greene; one brother in infancy, Max Eugene Greene; and one sister, Bernadine Shaw.
The family of Mr. Greene would like to extend a very special thank you to the wonderful care from Dr. Richard Fritz and the staff of St. John’s Hospice.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, July 6, 2009, in Prairie Avenue Christian Church, 2201 E. Prairie, Decatur. Visitation will be 4 – 7 pm Sunday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Point Pleasant Cemetery, with military rights by the United States Army. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Prairie Avenue Christian Church.
