Norman Leon Slaw's Obituary
Norman Leon Slaw Sr. 76 of Decatur passed away on Monday August 18, 2008 in Aspen Ridge Care Centre.
Homegoing service will be 12:00 noon Friday August 22, 2008 in St. Peter’s AME Church with Rev. Felix Akihimie officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 ' 7:00 pm in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
Norman was born on March 8, 1932 in Decatur the son of Oliver and Mildred Anderson Slaw Jr. He worked in plant operation at St. Mary’s Hospital retiring in 1994 after 31 years. He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Peter’s AME Church serving in the choir and the usher’s board. He was a member of the American Legion Robinson & Stark Post #1972. He coached for the Junior Football League and Northwest Baseball Association. He was also active in Indian guides with his son. He married Florence Green on May 28, 1959 in Chicago.
Surviving are his wife, Florence, son, Norman “Bunky” Slaw Jr. of Decatur; daughters, Sue Thompson of Decatur; Gwen Thompson of Chicago; Janice “Cubby” Milner David of Windsor, CT; grandchildren, Tera Manns of Chicago; Makeesha Holley of Mattoon; Shawna McDaniel of Mattoon; great grandchild, Nia Muhammad of Chicago; brother Raymond Slaw Shirley of Decatur; sister, Shirley Fonville of Decatur;
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Phillip Slaw, sister, Mary Lou Green, great grandchild, Brian Scott and brother Richard Slaw died on August 19, 2008.
The family of Norman Leon Slaw Sr. is being served by Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Decatur.
