Octavia Teresa Bell Lindsay's Obituary
Octavia Teresa Bell Lindsay, 86, of Decatur, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.
Octavia was born June 15, 1924, in Homer, LA, the daughter of Elijah and Isabelle Lawhorn Bell. She was a homemaker and she retired from Chicago Board of Education as a cook for an area school, Mason Upper Grade Center. Octavia lived a life of service and was affectionately known by her husband as Ã?¯Ã?¿Ã?½TavieÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½.
Octavia was a long standing member of St. MatthewÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½s United Methodist Church in Chicago; she attended Grace United Methodist Church and St. PeterÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½s A.M.E. Church in Decatur, Illinois for twenty plus years. She faithfully served on the steward board and United Methodist Women. She was involved in community and social clubs. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and loyal member of the Friends Group and the Decatur Garden Club. Octavia married Cornelius Lindsay on November 28, 1944 in Dayton, OH.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, her daughters: Roselyn Lindsay of Decatur and Carol Faye Lindsay of Chicago; sons: Calvin Lindsay of Chicago, and Cornelius L. Lindsay, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren: Andre L. Tosch, Jr. and Theresa Lindsay of Decatur, Kevin Lindsay Roslyn of Springfield, and Cornelius L. Lindsay, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; great grandchildren: Kamron, Isaiah, Shavontae, Jayla, Marcus, and Mikaela; sisters in law: Bettye Lindsay and Maude Kay Lindsay of Hogansville, GA, and Willie Mae Lindsay of Hartford, CT; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her parents; husband, Cornelius; son, Lawrence; five sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Services celebrating her life will be 12 pm, Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in Grace United Methodist Church, Rev. Danny Cox, officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, July 12, 2010 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; the family will be available after 7 pm. Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: St. MaryÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½s Adult Day Care.
The family would like to thank Dr. G. Patel, Dr. Atluri, Dr. Perdekamp, Dr. Qureshi, the nurses and staff of the 2nd floor ICU at St. MaryÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½s Hospital, the outpatient staff and nurses at DMH, St. MaryÃ?¯Ã?¿Ã?½s Adult Day Care, and the staff at Lincoln Manor for the loving care extended especially during her last 24 hours.
