Omer Lyle Carter's Obituary
Omer Lyle Carter, 79, of Decatur, died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 in Decatur.
Services celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, Rev. Malcolm Shotwell officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials: First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Carter was born on Feb. 17, 1926 in Decatur, the son of Thomas Ezra and Rosa Ella Jane Anderson Carter. Omer was retired from Caterpillar, after 32 years, where he worked as the Production Accounting Supervisor. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as financial secretary for 36 years. He was also a member of the Golden K, and a United States Army Veteran of WWII. Omer enjoyed camping and volunteering for DMH, Dove and the Macon County Senior Citizens Center. Omer married Elsie M. Smyers on Nov. 24, 1946 in Decatur.
Surviving is his wife, Elsie of Decatur; children: Terrie husband, Kenneth Meyer of Sterling, VA; Garry L. wife, Sandra Carter of Pleasanton, CA; Nancy husband, Jay Elliott of Fisher; Cindy husband, Rob Jenkins of Decatur; Douglas wife, Julie Carter of Fisher; brother, Warren Dale wife, Glenda Carter of Decatur; sisters: Freda Dean of McLeansboro and Beverly Dean of Decatur; 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Omer was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
