Omer Donald Hammond's Obituary
Omer Donald Hammond 93 of Decatur died Wednesday January 5, 2005 in his great-great nieces' home in Warrensburg.
Graveside services will be 1:30 pm Friday in Mt. Gilead Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Parks officiating. At Omer's request there will be no visitation. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View the on-line obituary and send condolences to the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
Omer was born on May 9 1911 in Niantic the son of Alva and Emma Shoemaker Hammond. He was a retired heavy equipment mover. He was a WWII US Army Veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge. His favorite thing to do was play Bluegrass and Country Music. He played the banjo and the mandadolin. His nieces and nephews will always remember him for sitting eating cookies and saying dumb dilly dumb. He married Mary Irene Moore on November 26, 1938 in Chicago she preceded him in death on October 29, 1946.
Surviving are his great-niece, Betty L. Harrison of Decatur; several great great-nieces and great great-nephews and many friends.
He as preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son three brothers and one sister.
