Oscar E. Plummer's Obituary
Oscar E. Plummer, 90, of Normal formerly of Clinton, passed away into the arms of Jesus Saturday August 31, 2013 at McLean County Nursing Home, with his loving wife of 69 years by his side.
Oscar was born in Decatur, IL, April 11, 1923, the son of Fred D. and Gladys B. Ramseyer Plummer. He married Juanita M. Park on May 20, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She survives in Normal, IL.
He is survived by three children, Fred (Edie) Plummer, Normal; Susie (Terry) O’Neil, Bloomington; and Jim (Pam) Plummer, Clinton. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Clint Plummer, Joe Plummer, Matt Plummer, Jennifer O’Neil, John O’Neil, Hannah O’Neil, Mitch Clark, Dusty Osgood, Trisha Faingold, and Phil Goben. There are 17 great grandchildren.
His father, Fred D. Plummer, and his mother, Gladys B. Plummer, preceded Oscar in death.
Oscar was a member of Wapella Christian Church.
He served in the U. S. Army 1943-1946, 743rd ROB European Theater of Operations. He was awarded a Purple Heart, WWII, Battle of the Bulge.
Oscar had been an agent/operator for the Illinois Central Railroad for 28 years. He also worked as a field representative for the Illinois American Legion. He later worked as a train dispatcher for the Chicago and Illinois Midland Railroad, and for the Illinois Terminal Railroad. He retired in 1983.
He was a life member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Oscar loved to write poetry, mostly about his family, and his life experiences. He also loved to sing.
He was a frequent writer of Letters to the Editor over many years, to the Decatur Herald, and The Pantagraph.
Oscar’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Oscar will be cremated, and a celebration of life service will be planned at a later date. Inurnment will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL
