Ozell Powell's Obituary
Ozell, known to many as 'Pap, Ozzie, or Zell' Powell, Sr., 78 , of Decatur, departed, Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Ozell was born April 11, 1934, in Brownsville, TN, the son of Robert Powell and Kizzie (Taylor). He attended school in Brownsville, TN and obtained a high school diploma. Ozell and Marion B. Tyus were married on May, 16, 1959. Ozell was a devoted family man, that always put his family above all else. He worked at Wagner Casting Company for 33 years and also Martin's Jewelers for several years including time at Woolworth's. In his spare time he enjoyed sports, politics, good music, and good food. He attended Trinity CME church until his passing and was a member of the Tennessee Retirement Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, five children; Clister Powell, Pamelia Powell, Cletis Powell, Ozell Powell and Makina (Alonzo)Clark; Siblings; Otis (Leona) Powell, Brownsville, TN, Wilmon Powell, and Illena (Van) Florence, Detroit, MI; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
Ozell was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 to 12 noon on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in Trinity CME Church. Homegoing service will be 12 noon in the church with interment following in Graceland Cemetery.
