Particia M. Galligan's Obituary
Patricia M. Galligan, 89, of Decatur, died Thursday, June 26, in Decatur.
Pat, a homemaker and member of Saints James and Patrick Catholic Church, served as president and treasurer of the Catholic Daughters of America, was a member of the Altar Society at St. Patrick’s Church and volunteered at Catholic Charities. For the past nine years she lived at the Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur.
Pat was born June 3, 1919, in Springfield, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude Schlemm Young. She graduated from Decatur High School and during World War II worked for Mississippi Steel in Decatur as a secretary. Pat married James M. Galligan on April 7, 1945, following his overseas service in the war. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Surviving are her six children, Bridget Van Hook Stanley of Sullivan; Mary C. Galligan John Camper of Chicago; Patricia Stieren Mark of Springfield; James Galligan of Sullivan; Philip Galligan Terri Chance of Decatur; and Michael Galligan Natalie of Bloomington.
She also is survived by her 12 grandchildren, Emilie Beagle Nathan of Sullivan; Joseph Camper of Chicago; Kathryn Stieren of Arcata, Calif.; Megan and Michael Stieren of Springfield; Adam Galligan of Sullivan; Dr. Andrew Galligan Stephanie of Gainesville, Fla.; Matthew Galligan of Longwood, Fla.; Anthony Galligan Latrice Anderson of Champaign; Mary Ann Galligan of Decatur; and Rachel and Jaclyn Galligan of Bloomington. Pat also is survived by her step-granddaughter Sarah Simpson Thomas of Chicago, her step-great-grandson Ryan Simpson of Chicago and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, infant sister Gertrude “Gay” Young; Bernice McManus; Mary Frances Stowell; Ursula Beck; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Bartosch Galligan. She is survived by her sister, Norma Robinson of Decatur.
Visitation will be held 5:00 ' 8:00 PM Sunday at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe St. in Decatur with a Vigil Prayer service at 4:45 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, with the Rev. Jeffery Grant as celebrant, at 10:00 AM Monday, June 30, 2008. In honor of Pat, memorials may be made to Saints James and Patrick Church.
Pat’s family members are very grateful for the loving care and friendship provided to her by the nurses, staff and residents of Imboden and for their care, love and concern for her family.
