Patsy E. Brinkoetter's Obituary
Patsy E. Brinkoetter, 89, of Decatur, passed away November 11, 2013, peacefully in her home.
Mrs. Brinkoetter was born on June 13, 1924 at Marfrance, West Virginia, to Barbara and James McKenzie. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Decatur, Illinois, a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Huntington, West Virginia and St. Joseph’s School of Anesthesiology in Springfield, Illinois. Patsy married James P. Brinkoetter on October 1, 1949 in Ronceverte, West Virginia, and thereafter made Decatur, Illinois their home.
She is survived by six of her children: James Brinkoetter (Patricia), David Brinkoetter (Gale), Pamela Sweet (William), Barbara Forbes (Rick), Martin Brinkoetter (Colleen), Peter Brinkoetter, and one son, Joseph Leo Brinkoetter preceded her in death. She is survived by 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three of her brothers, James Vincent (Vince) McKenzie, Tommy (T.J.) McKenzie, and Joseph (Joe) McKenzie, and one sister, Flora Jane Gatley. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Brinkoetter (1999), her mother Barbara McKenzie (1988), her father James Vincent McKenzie (1962), three sisters, Ruth McKenzie (1934), Marian Korczowski (1988) Lucy Ann Bodary (2009), and one brother Eugene (Gino) McKenzie (2013).
Patsy loved and was loved by her family. She was the dedicated wife of her husband of forty nine years, and to her family was a teacher, nurse, cook, counselor, confidant, collector and maker of memories, advocate, gardener, and cheerleader. She was a kind, good, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Visitation for Patsy will be from 4 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life will be 10 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be directed to the Patsy Brinkoetter Memorial Fund at Busey Bank. Those funds will be directed to Our Lady of Lourdes School and St. Teresa High School.
