Philip M. Thompson's Obituary
Philip Mark ‘Chip’ Thompson, 60, died peacefully in his home on January 4, 2015, after courageously battling 5 different cancers over the last 7 years.
Phil was born on August 13th, 1954, in Kansas City, MO, to Bill and Helen (Kuckelman) Thompson. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1976 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and moved to Decatur where he worked for Illinois Power, Dynegy and finally Ameren, as a Supervising Engineer.
In 1981, he married Mary Kay Pinto and they recently celebrated 33 years of marriage with a trip to Rome. They were blessed with 4 children who were the light of his life. He always wanted them to know that they were loved unconditionally and that what the rest of the world thought was unimportant as long as they were treating others fairly and doing what made them happy.
He was a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs and especially University of Missouri football and basketball.
Phil was an active member of Ss James and Patrick Parish and St. Patrick’s School where he coached his children’s basketball teams, announced swim meets for the Decatur Swim Club for the “best seat at the pool” while watching his children swim and could always be seen in the stands of St. Teresa High School while watching the children play soccer. He was also a long-time volunteer for both St Patrick and St Teresa at Bingo.
Phil is survived by his wife Mary Kay Thompson of Decatur, IL; children Stephanie Thompson (Kevin) of Decatur, Courtney Thompson of Chicago, IL, Charles ‘Chip’ Thompson and fiancée Emily Callahan of New Orleans, LA; Evan Thompson of Decatur, IL; mother Helen Thompson of Kansas City, MO; sisters Anne (John) Babuich, Joan (Dwayne) Skare, and Patricia (Dale) Meek of Kansas City, MO and Valerie (Chris) Akers of St. Louis, MO as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Thompson.
A special thank you to Dr. Bill Franklin, Dr. Steve Sobol, Dr. Tom Tarter, Heidi Sexton ACNP, Dr. Jim Wade, LeAnn Rhinehart FNP, Dr Ranjodh Singh, Dr George Liu, and all the wonderful nurses who helped him over the last few years.

Visitation will also be at St Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, January 10, 2015, beginning at 11:00am. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Patrick’s Grade School and St. Teresa High School.
