Decatur-Raymond J. Roddy, 86, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services to celebrate Ray’s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton, IL. Military honors will be conducted by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
Ray was born November 7, 1925 in Salem, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Lucy Hood Roddy. He proudly served his country in U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was previously employed with the Decatur Street Department retiring with over thirty years of service. He enjoyed hot rods, motorcycles, fishing, and hunting. He married Nina Mae Mounts in 1944. She preceded him in death May 20, 1988.
He leaves behind his son Raymond of Florida, brothers Jack and wife Pat of Mt. Zion and Archie of Flint, Michigan, sister Marie Jimison and husband Chuck of Flemington, Missouri, best friend and neighbor Wendell of Decatur, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Joe.
