Reno Yattoni's Obituary
Reno Yattoni, 85, of Morrisonville, passed away August 31, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 5, 1925 in Tovey, IL, to Emilio and Louisa Guidani Yattoni. He married Grace Lyerla on June 20, 1949. Reno retired from the Morrisonville School District in 1983. He was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Reno was a WW II veteran serving in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines, New Guinea and New Britain. He was a 155 gunner in the U.S. Army 11th Core Artillery fighting battles in New Britain and Luzon. His battalion was responsible for blasting the hole in the Intramuros wall in the City of Manila. He was a life member of the Morrisonville American Legion Post where he served as past Commander and Treasurer for many years. He also served as Ricks I Precinct Committeeman, was a member of the Christian County Zoning Board and belonged to the Taylorville Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 60 years.
He is survived by his five children: Mark Barb Yattoni of Morrisonville, Kristina Phil DeRochi, Marcia Doug McKinnie of Taylorville, R.G. Debra Yattoni of Morrisonville and Sam Yattoni of Glenarm. Grandchildren, Will Laura Goebel, Jereme Goebel, Justin Cara McKinnie, Jordan and Mallory McKinnie, Matt, Andrea, Anthony and Hannah Yattoni. Step-grandchildren: Rochelle DeRochi, Elisha Brandon Schienders and Rachel Knoles; Great-grandchildren: Giuseppe Goebel, and Myles McKinnie; step-great grandson Jamieson Schnieders and brother-in-law, Phil Bonnie Lyerla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be 10 am Saturday, September 4, 2010 in St. Maurice Catholic Church Morrisonville, Rev. Gerald Bunse celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Friday in the church with a vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Burial with military rites will take place in St. Maurice Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Morrisonville American Legion.
Reno was a die hard Chicago Cubs, Bears and Illini fan instilling his love for these sports teams in his family. He spent the past 45 summers camping, fishing for catfish and boating on Lake Taylorville, where he enjoyed playing bocci ball and drinking beer with friends and family.
In keeping with his love for wildlife and nature, he was a loyal and generous supporter of the National Wildlife Federation.
Preceding him in death are his wife; parents; step-father, Anselmo Bernardi; grandchildren: Natalie Goebel and Jacqueline and Jeffrey Yattoni; brother, Louie Yattoni and sister Vienna Burchie.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose greatest joy, other than living life itself, was the pride he felt for his family.
