Richard H. "Ab" Yokley, 75, of Decatur, died on Saturday May 10, 2003 in Nashville, TN.
Services celebrating his life will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 in J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery. Ab was born in Logan county on December 13, 1927 the son of Ottis and Flo Pitcock Yokley. He was employed at Illinois Power where he worked as a Gas Meter Foreman for 42 years before retiring in 1989. He gained the nickname "Ab" by co-workers from the "Little Abner Yokum" cartoon. A previous member of Trueblood United Methodist Church, Ab served in the Army from 1945-1946. He married Alice Nadine Virden on October 03, 1948 in Decatur. They were married 54 years. They enjoyed retirement together, always on the go. They were on a trip in Tennessee when he became ill. A talented Fret Work Scroll Saw Artist, Ab was a loving man who was highly regarded by everyone.
Surviving are his wife; son, William Karen Yokley of Decatur; daughter, Barbara Sterling Morrell of Decatur; brothers: Kelly Jackie Yokley of Decatur; Gerald Ann Yokley 0f Chipley, FL.; Bob Jan Yokley of Decatur; Finley Karen Yokley of Alpine, CA.; sister, Arlene John Bird of Warrensburg; grandchildren: Seth Sara Morrell; Jake Kristi Morrell; Joe and Dana Yokley; Tessa Morrell; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
