Richard "Dick" Hebenstreit's Obituary
Richard “Dick” J. Hebenstreit, 84, of Decatur passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 in Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, IL.
Dick was born June, 3, 1931 in Ramsey, IL the son of Clement Richard and Johanna Mary (Miller) Hebenstreit.
Dick graduated high school from St. Joseph Redemptorist Seminary in Kirkwood, MO. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Military Air Policeman from 1952-1956. His squadron was stationed in French Morocco. For a short time they were under the command of the French Air Force. He worked at the Post Office while attending Millikin University. After graduation, He married Mary Ellen Moran on October 7, 1961 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2011.
Dick was employed by General Printing in Chicago as an account executive. In 1972 he moved back to Decatur and started his own business, National Shipping Service. In 1975 he sold the business and went to work for Huston Patterson Printers as a graphic arts consultant. He retired in1993. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Surviving are his sons, John R. Hebenstreit (Tina Huff) of Lincoln; Mark J. Hebenstreit (Melanie) of Springfield; Michael J. Hebenstreit (Daynna) of Bloomington; brothers, Paul Hebenstreit (Marietta) of Pana; James Hebenstreit (Shirley) of Golden, CO; sister, Clementine Rueff of Decatur; ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, several nieces, nephews, and cousins
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Sylvester Frank Kern; daughter, Lynn Marie Hebenstreit; son, Dr. Stephen G. Hebenstreit; and sister, Cecilia Painter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Weltin as Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a Vigil Prayer Service at 4:30 PM Monday. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the New Life Pregnancy Center.
