Ricky D. Spangler's Obituary
Ricky D. Spangler, 66, passed away on September 28, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. He was born in Decatur on September 22, 1957, to Omar and Norma Spangler. He married Debra Lee Hampsten on March 1, 1985 in Decatur, IL.
Ricky grew up in Argenta, Illinois and after graduating from Argenta-Oreana High School joined the Navy. During this time, he served as a recruit on the U.S.S. South Carolina. After the military, he worked for Dekalb (Monsanto) and later Bridgestone-Firestone. He harbored a love for nature and the outdoors that was instilled from a young age and carried throughout his life. He was a guiding light for many throughout their turbulent times.
Surviving him are his wife, Debra “Tina” Spangler (married on March 1, 1985), son Derek Spangler, stepdaughter Wendi Burgess-Tatro, and three step-grandchildren.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. James Wade and the Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois for their extraordinary care and compassion during Ricky’s journey.
