Robert F. "Bob" Griffin's Obituary
Robert F. 'Bob' Griffin, 67, of Mt. Zion, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 in his home with his family at his side.
Bob was born January 16, 1946 in Decatur, son of William 'Pat' and Frances Helen (Smith) Griffin. A U.S. Army veteran, serving two tours in Viet Nam, and member of Ss. James & Patrick Catholic Church and Vietnow, Bob worked as a machinist at Caterpillar until retiring in 2005. He was very active in Mt. Zion and was President of Mt. Zion Youth Baseball, and Mt. Zion Library Board where he was instrumental in establishing the new library. Bob married Jan Rybacki July 13, 1968 in Enterprise, AL.
Surviving is his wife, Jan of Mt. Zion; children: Bill (Heather) Griffin of McHenry, Sean Griffin of Arlington, VA, Todd Griffin of Chicago, and Jason (Kim) Griffin of Burke, VA; grandson, Connor Griffin, and sister, Edie Cox of Decatur; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill and sister, Patricia Mitchell.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Bob's life will be 10 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rev. John Burnette Celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm, Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service 4:30 pm. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in St. Isidore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to: V.A. Hospital in Danville or American Diabetes Association.
