Robert Lee Calmese's Obituary
Robert 'Nick' Calmese, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with his wife by his side.
On Saturday, May 25, 2013, visitation will be from 10 a.m. ' 11 a.m. at Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church with the Homegoing Service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Nick was born to the late John D. Calmese and Minnie B. Davis on May 2, 1941 in Charleston, MS. He attended Bob Wood School Gunnison, MS. He married Hattie Jordan on January 27, 1967. Three children were born to this union and one daughter, Sharon, survives.
He had operated Calmese Restaurant for 17 years and previously worked at ADM. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age in Gunnison, MS and became a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Decatur. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, and hanging with Archie.
Nick is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Hattie; children: Sharon Calmese, Brenda (Ed) Johnson, and Calvin (Cynthia) Thomas all of Decatur; Maxine Paine of Gunnison, MS; brothers: John (Lorine) Calmese of Gunnison, MS; George Calmese, Johnnie (Delores) Calmese, Bill (Cynthia) Calmese, Kelby Calmese, James Calmese and June Calmese all of St. Louis, MO; sisters: Minnie Crawford, Lucinda Davis, Ida Davis, and Velma Jo Smith Davis all of Decatur, IL; Fannie Davis of Indianapolis, IN; Liza Davis of Des Moines, IA; Grace Davis of Gunnison, MS; Tawana (Dewayne) Berry, Jewel (Marvin) McNeece, and Tina (Terry) Batts all of St. Louis, MO; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends Eddie Paine and Archie Johnson, who passed away May 19.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, two children, and two brothers.
