Robert C. Hackert's Obituary
Robert C. "Bob" Hackert Sr. 86 of Decatur died Wednesday November 29, 2006 in his home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 1 pm Monday, December 4, 2006 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Davis officiating. Visitation will be 3:00 - 5:00 pm Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with Military Honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to DMH Hospice.
Bob was born on May 24, 1920 in Decatur, IL the son of August Karl and Mary Prell Hackert Sr. He worked as a shipping inspector and as a operator at the Eleven Building for A.E. Staley Manufacturing retiring in 1977. He was a member of the AIW Local 837, an avid fisherman, hunter, loved to shoot pool, and went by the nickname "The Rifleman" spending most of his time at Tozer's Pool Hall. He married Betty J. Fogerson on August 13, 1949 in Rockville, IN. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1992.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Army as a Tech. Sergeant from 1941-1947. He was a POW during World War II and received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, was an expert marksman and earned many other military commendations. Bob was a member of the Army's Black Widow Patrol.
He is survived by his sons, Robert C. Hackert Jr. of Decatur; James W. Hackert Connie of Decatur; Joseph M. Hackert Sr. Diane of Decatur; John E. Hackert Mary Highland Park; step-son William A. Bell Ellen of Golconda; daughters, Mary Jayne Weaver Dion of Decatur; Julie A. Hackert Brenda of Mt. Zion; brothers, August Karl Hackert Jr. Rose of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Stacy Lane Travis, Sgt. Thomas Hackert, Kristen Lowe James, Joseph Hackert Jr., Jeannie Hackert, Jason Hackert, Heather, Hackert, Wes Bell Christine, Greg Bell, Sheri Rush Don, Don Weaver, Dennis Weaver, Ron Weaver, Nicholas GarrettJennifer, and Travis Garrett, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Dad & Mom are back together again.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and two sisters.
