Robert L. Harris' Obituary
Robert L. “Bob” Harris, 77, of Decatur, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in his home.
Bob was born December 17, 1930, in Detroit, MI, the son of Elbert and Annella Baldwin Harris. He worked as an assembly foreman at Caterpillar retiring in 1986. Bob proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service. He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church, was an avid golfer, and delivered meals on wheels for several years. He married Hazel Ruth Vaughn on June 26, 1954 in Granite City.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Decatur; children: William E. Harris of California and Laura Lee Dan Walker of Decatur; grandchildren: former Marine Sergeant Adam Jacob Robert Walker and Amanda Mandy Walker; sisters: Jo Anne Swofford of Benton, Mary Evelyn Charles Bayless of Decatur, Roselyn Nolan Faye-Wingo of Thompsonville; brothers: Wendell Marilyn Harris of Decatur, Ben Sandra Harris of Dalton City, and Michael Sharon Harris of Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
