Robert Hinkle's Obituary
Robert William Hinkle, 76, of Decatur, son of William. R. Hinkle and Helen R. (Atkins) Hinkle, passed away on April 7, 2024. Robert “Bob” was born April 8, 1947, in Decatur, IL. Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents and is survived by his daughter, Christina Hinkle (Ashley), son James Hinkle (Jennifer), son Jerald Hinkle (Leah), sister Judy Telford (Gary), and brother Gary Hinkle (Vickie), 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special extended members of the Boland, Burtschi, and Scott families.
Robert graduated from Maroa Forsyth High School 1965 and Eastern Illinois University 1969. He served in the US Navy from 1969-1973 and was very proud to have served on the USS Forrestal. Robert gave over 27 years of dedication to the employees of Taylor Pharmaceutical/Acorn. He enjoyed turning strangers into friends, telling stories and jokes to everyone he met. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle, Decatur.
Robert knew love and gave love. His presence will be missed.
Visitation will be at Moran/Goebel, Decatur, Illinois, on May 2, 2024, 5pm-7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle on May 3, 2024, at 10am, with a Military Honor Guard Service held at Camp Butler.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
