Robert Stanley Newsome's Obituary
Pana-Robert “Bobby” Newsome, 60, of Pana, formerly of Port Orange, FL, passed away at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 peacefully at his home with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Bobby’s life will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011at Harvest Christian Center, 2199 N. Water St. Decatur. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Christian Center, Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, or Harbor Light Hospice.
Bobby was born December 13, 1950 in Decatur, the son of Stanley E. and Genevieve O. Newsome. He graduated from Eisenhower High School, Class of 1969. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1970-1980. Most of his active duty was in Germany where he proudly earned the award of the Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service. Later he held various jobs in Decatur, IL and Port Orange, FL. He was particularly fond of the memories of the people and the work he performed while employed at the Pana Community Hospital. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, and U of I football and basketball teams. He was gifted with the ability to tell a story or joke and make people laugh. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange, FL, and a member of Team Jesus. After moving to Illinois he wasn’t always able to attend church because of his health, but he read his bible scriptures, devotions, and prayed daily. His favorite bible verse was Philippians 4:5-6 and his favorite hymn is Blessed Assurance.
He leaves behind his mother, Genevieve Gowan, children, Jennifer Errin Gibbons and Bobby Trisha Paine, grandchildren, Klinton, Lacey, Branden, and Dalten, sisters, Arlene Enlow, Maribelle Clarence Vest, Chris Vaughn, and Gayle Doug Gordon, step-sisters, Patricia Walton and Martha Schultz, step-brother, Gary Gowan, special friends, Linda and Janet, and several special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was reunited in Heaven with his father, sister, Ramona Sue, brothers, Phillip Michael and Rex Eugene Cutler, and step-father, Orlie Gowan.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Velasco, the nurses, and his loving daughter Jenny with Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois and to Carol, Marilyn, Tim, and Whitney with Harbor Light Hospice for all of their compassionate care.
