Robert was the son of Ben and Bertha Mae Baltimore Thompson. He was retired from Wagner Castings where he worked as a forklift operator for several years. He married Wilma J. White on December 22, 1968 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife Wilma of Kentwood MI.; sons: Robert L. ”Bobby” Thompson, wife Elaine of Benton Harbor, MI.; Randy Thompson, wife Deborah of Hopewell, VA.; Roger Thompson of Peoria, IL.; Christopher Thompson of Decatur, IL.; daughters: Natasha Thompson of Kentwood, MI.; Tonya Doyle Bicy, husband Tony of Lansing, MI.; brothers: Ben Thompson of Kalamazoo, MI.; Avery Tate, wife Erlene of Decatur, IL.; special friends: Yvette Young, Maurice Woods, and Marie Goeb; 12 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His parents and 4 brothers preceded him in death.
