Robert J. "Bob" Vercellino 78 of Decatur died on Tuesday Oct. 05, 2004 in Decatur.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 09, 2004 in Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Lockport. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday in the Moran and Goebel Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church. Bob was born in Joliet on January 22, 1926, the son of Dominic and Hattie Overton Vercellino. Bob grew up in Crest Hill, IL, quitting high school to join the US Navy where he served aboard the USS West Virginia in the Pacific from 1941- 1944, returning home, he went to work for the Boston Store in Joliet. This is where he met Josephine Carli; they married on November 13, 1954. Josephine preceded him in death on December 27, 1981. Bob later went to work for Carson Pirie Scott & Company, was transferred to Decatur as operations manager and retired in 1982 after 25 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and in his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and gardening.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Peter and wife Janet and their children Dominic, Marie and Peter, son Charles and wife Karen and their children Tony, Matt, Michael and Katherine; and daughter Carla and her husband Kerry and their daughter Sophia all of Decatur; many-many nieces, nephews and their families; and his special cousin, Margaret Rogers of Davis, CA.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Mary Catherine, Dolores and Dorothy.
Bob was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends.
