Rodger K. Snelson's Obituary
Rodger K. Snelson, 85, of Decatur, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, September 27, 2008,
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 30, at 10:00 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, September 29, from 5 – 8 p.m. in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Reception will follow at Southside Country Club. Memorials may be made in his name to St. James Catholic Church, James Millikin Homestead, or Macon County Historical Society.
Rodger was born September 15, 1923 in Decatur, the eldest of 4 sons of William and Esther Cook Snelson. He was a student at Decatur High School and Millikin University, where he met his bride of 58 years, Mary Louise Henson. He went on to graduate from University of Illinois in 1948 after serving in the United States Army during WWII. He worked for A.E. Stanley Manufacturing Co. for 25 years as a project engineer. He was a member of Southside Country Club and the Golden K Kiwanis.
Rodger is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; 6 children, Ann Louise Sundby George of San Francisco, CA; Rodger Snelson Jr. Sally of Randolph, NJ; Sarah Ellen Armstrong of Indianapolis, IN; Elizabeth Snelson Gemlo Brett of St. Paul, MN; Priscilla Snelson of Decatur; James Snelson Melissa of Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren, Alexander and Matthew Sundby of San Francisco, CA; Rebecca and Stephen Snelson of Randolph, NJ; Sarah, Cameron and Eva Gemlo of St. Paul, MN; Samuel and Charles of Minnetonka, MN; One brother, Keith Snelson Charlene of Goshen, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ronald and Darrel Snelson; and son-in-law, Richard Armstrong.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the DMH Hospice staff and Addus Home Care staff for their loving care, and to the many friends who have extended their prayers and condolences through this difficult time.
