Roger Eugene Riley's Obituary
Roger Eugene Riley, 89, of Decatur died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Fairhavens Christian Home.
Gene was born on August 2, 1920 in Bloomington, IL the son of Francis and Mary Rogers Riley. He retired from Bodine Electric Company in 1987 after 20 years of service and was a member of IBEW Local 146. Prior to this, he was founder and owner of Olympic Molded Products, a sailboat building business. He was a Veteran of the US Army. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Bible Club for over 25 years. He was also a lifetime member of Lake Decatur Yacht Club since 1936. Sailing was his lifelong passion. He married Mary Jane Bulger on December 4, 1943 in West Palm Beach, FL she preceded him in death on January 28, 2005.
Surviving are his daughters: Margaret E. McIlvoy of Las Cruces, NM; Jane F. husband, Michael Flickinger of Carlsbad, CA; Catherine E. husband, David Riley-Kresin of Denver, CO; sons: Joseph E. wife, Carol Riley of Bloomingdale, IL; Anthony “Tony” G. wife, Jodi Riley of Trinidad, CO; brother, Jerry Riley Linda of Chula Vista, CA; sister, Grace Bowers of Hoffman Estates; sister-in-law, Marguerite Riley of Decatur; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Robert, George, and Denny and one grandson, Max.
Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life will be 11:00 am Saturday May 1, 2010 in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. James Palakudy as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery-Decatur with Military Rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
