Ronald E. Jump's Obituary
Decatur-Ronald E. Jump, 80, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 in his home with his family by his side.
Ron was born May 17, 1934 in Canton, Illinois, the son of Harvey and Elizabeth (Leonard) Jump. He received his Bachelors in education from Western Illinois University and his Masters in education from Sangamon State University (UIS). He retired after thirty-eight years of service. Thirty-two of those years were at Niantic-Harristown where he served as teacher, coach, bus driver, athletic director, and principal. After retirement he was a substitute teacher for five years. He was the former mayor of Niantic and former director of the Water Street Mission. He was a member of Maranatha Assembly of God Church and Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association where he was past president. He enjoyed family get-togethers, spending time with children and grandchildren, NASCAR, horse racing, sports, and officiating track meets. He married Sherry Hayner August 28, 1954.
He leaves behind his wife Sherry of Decatur, children Jeff Jump and wife Linda of Decatur, Tim Jump and wife Kathleen of Illiopolis, and Suzy Ziegler and husband Jeff of Decatur, daughter-in-law Brenda Jump of Niantic, sisters Shirley McDowell of Canton and Sharon Nuttall and husband Andy of Canton, fourteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, son Toby Jump, and brother Roderick Jump.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. West, Dr. DaWood, and Safe Haven Hospice for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Ron’s life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Maranatha Assembly of God, 555 W. Imboden Decatur, with Pastor Doug Lowery officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Illiopolis. Memorials may be directed to Decatur Cares Rescue Mission.
