Ronald M. Shafer's Obituary
Ronald M. Shafer, Sr., 79, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016, peacefully in his home.
Ronald was born July 18, 1937, in Decatur, to Delbert Frederick and Hazel Irene (Lourash) Shafer. He married Edith Mae Ingram on November 19, 1970, in Clinton, IL. She passed away April 13, 2010. Ron was a Millwright at ADM for many years. He was a member of South Shores Christian Church. He loved to bowl, dance, stock car racing and working on cars. But most of all, he was a loving father, grandfather and brother. Ron would call every one of his seven children, between 8:15p.m. and 8:30 p.m., every night to tell them how much he loved them.
He is survived by his seven children, Monica (Randy) Perry of Decatur, Cindy (Tim) Rogers of Decatur, Sheri (Shawn) McCay of Decatur, Tina Minich of Decatur, Vickie (Roy) Kelly of Decatur, Veronica (Michael) Cox of Pewaukee, WI, and Ronald Shafer, Jr. of Decatur; 21 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Dale (Carol) Shafer of Decatur, Jerome (Dee Dee) Shafer of Decatur and Delbert Shafer, Jr. of Decatur; four sisters, Shirley (Jim) Nash of Decatur, Dorothy Campbell of Decatur, Sharon Bilbrey of Decatur and Marilyn Hensen of Decatur; sister-in-law, Carla Shafer of Decatur and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; son-in-law, Jeff Minich; one grandson, John Campbell; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Rogers; two brothers; four sisters and three brother-in-laws.
The family will host a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016, at South Shores Christian Church. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to South Shores Christian Church 230 Bristol Dr, Decatur, IL 62521.
