Roosevelt Davis' Obituary
Roosevelt Davis was born on April 21, 1928 in Brownsville, Tennessee to the union of Louis T. “Cal” and Mattie Bell Davis. After tarrying his earthly home for 93 wonderful years, Roosevelt was called to Glory on May 6, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in the presence of family.
Roosevelt accepted Christ at an early age. He was a long-serving, faithful Deacon at New Publican Primitive Baptist Church.
Roosevelt married Edna Farrow on September 23, 1963 and they remained united until his death. Together, they were blessed with four daughters. Roosevelt also had one son from a previous marriage.
Affectionately known as “B” by many friends and family, Roosevelt enjoyed spending time with others. He also enjoyed tending to his gardens, watching baseball, and attending church. He was a member of the NAACP for many years. Roosevelt retired from Wagner Castings Company in 1990 after 39 years of labor.
Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Edna Davis; daughters, Linda (Eddie) Harper, Rosetta Davis, and Tracy (Robert) Crawford; grandchildren, Janelle (Jimmy) Jones, Ashley (Kenny) Whitelow, Caleb Davis, Briana Crawford, Porscha Young, Rakeem Davis, and Isham Davis; great grandchildren, Shaundarius Freeman, Tyra Austin, Antonio Austin, Jr., Kaniah Austin, Jaylen Davis, Khyrell Austin, Emery Washington, and Dasani Lovelace; sisters, Mattie Henley, Pearl Reed, and Lillie Mae Lott, as well as a host of other loving family members and friends.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents, Louis T. “Cal” and Mattie Bell Davis; daughter, Brenda Powell; son, Joe Nathan Davis; grandson, Antonio Austin, Sr.; and siblings, Cordilla Johnson, James Davis, and Cal Davis, Jr.
Homegoing services will be 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at New Publican Primitive Baptist Church in Decatur, IL; visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Masks are required.
