Rose Marie Nelms' Obituary
Decatur- Rose M. (Russell) Nelms, ,87, of Mt. Vernon, IL passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at White Oaks Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.
Rose was born on September 22, 1926, in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Edward and Mildred (Segrist) Russell. She married Thomas Nelms on April 1, 1945. She was previously employed at Federal Kemper Insurance. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and cooking. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, IL and previously a member of St. James Catholic Church in Decatur, IL.
She leaves behind her daughters Kay Henry of Mt. Vernon, IL and Sharon (Jim) Shinall of Decatur, IL, sister, Lucille (Victor) Lanzotti of Decatur, IL, grandchildren Tracie (Jeff) Meyer, Kevin Henry, Tami (Tim) Wittenauer, Chuck (Deborah) Henry, Trey McLean, and Kelly Hale, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Nelms of fifty years, parents, one year old brother Edward Russell, daughter DiAnne McLean of Mt. Vernon, IL, and two sisters Marjorie Kaltenbach and Dorothy Gunning both of Decatur, IL.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a Vigil Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Rose’s life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant. Burial with “Flight Home” ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. James Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
