Rosie L. Nelms' Obituary
Rosie L. Nelms, 70, of Decatur, IL, departed this life and entered peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, April 4, 2015, in Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Rosie was born January 29, 1945 to the late TJ Thompson Sr. and Willie Bee (Howard) Thompson in Crawfordsville, AR. Rosie attended school in Crawfordsville, AR. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She married John Wesley Nelms and to this union four children were born. Rosie truly loved her family and friends, and she was always willing to help everybody. During her life she was a care giver to many children.
Rosie leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, John Nelms of Decatur, IL; Herman Nelms of Indianapolis, IN; and one daughter, Shirley Nelms of Sycamore, IL. She leaves to celebrate her new life twelve brothers: TJ (Joyce) Thompson Jr., Henry J. (Louise) Thompson, Moses Thompson, James Williams, John W. (Nancy) Thompson, Roosevelt (Elizabeth) Thompson, Harvey (Dorothy) Thompson, Johnny (Juanita) Hunt, Eddie (Vickie) Thompson, Iris L. (Sharrell) Thompson Sr., John H. Thompson, and Chris Thompson; one sister, Stella Thompson; two uncles: Herman (Ada) Thompson and Frank Thompson; one aunt, Ethel Conley; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; special granddaughter, Tamisha Bond; special friend, Edna Davis; and a host of other family and friends to numerous to mention, but equally loved.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Thomas Jefferson and Willie B. Thompson Sr., a step mother, Birda Thompson, a son, Frankie Nelms, three sisters, Irene Bradley, Sarah Thomas and Alma Warren, and two brothers, Robert Thompson and Charles Thompson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Tarter, Dr. Minnaonti, and the staff of 5100 and 4100 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Rosie’s life will be 12 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 240 N Edward St, Decatur. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park in Harristown.
