Ruby Geraldine Pettyjohn's Obituary
Ruby G. Pettyjohn, 90, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, with her children at her side.
Ruby was born in Marion, Illinois, on July 8, 1935, the daughter of Willis and Hattie (Turnage) Brush. She married Robert Pettyjohn on January 16, 1953.
Ruby worked for Hi-Flyer Kite Factory in Decatur. She was a longtimel member of Grand Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, gardening (especially roses), and taking care of her beloved cat Patches.
Ruby is survived by her children Patricia Ellis, Debra (Randy) Ewing, Gary Pettyjohn, Karen (Charlie) Majors, and James Pettyjohn; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, one son, 2 grandchildren, and life companion Edward Taylor. She will be sadly missed.
Special thanks go to grandson Jeremy, who gave care to his grandmother during her illness, and to Elara Caring Hospice, especially nurse Troy.
Services for Ruby will be held on Wednesday, December 10, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 10am and will be followed by a service at 11am. Burial in Macon County Memorial Park will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or to epilepsy research.
