Russell Eugene Shoemaker's Obituary
Russell Eugene Shoemaker, 84, of Decatur, died on Thursday July 22, 2004 in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.
Services celebrating his life will be 10 a.m. Monday July 26, 2004 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, Pastor Don Fisher officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Marrowbone Cemetery Bethany with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials: Alzheimer's Association.
Mr. Shoemaker was born on June 10, 1920, in Oakland Illinois, the son of Harlan and Alma Harman Shoemaker. Russell was employed at Caterpillar for 20 years before retiring in 1982; he also worked as a general contractor for 16 years building several houses in Decatur. He was a member of the Joy Community Church and an Army veteran of WWII, Eighth Air Force, 44th Bomb Group. Russell loved golf, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He married Marcella Coon on March 1, 1941 in St. Charles, MO.
Surviving is his wife; children: Diana Sue Andrews Jim of Bethany; Sharon Fisher Don of Decatur; Linda Snyder Sterling of Warrensburg; Russell S. Shoemaker Connie of Lafayette, IN; Connie Shoemaker of Lakewood, CO; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Ethel Killion and daughter Carol Ann of Santa Barbara, CA; mother-in-law, Ettoil Coon of Mattoon.
His parents; brother, Bobby Lee and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lincoln Manor for their loving care of Russell. His family will greatly miss him as he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
