Ruth E. Peters' Obituary
Ruth Eileen Peters passed away Monday morning (June 11, 2012) in Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was 90 years old. Ruth was born on July 15, 1921 in Greenup, Illinois, the daughter of Dolph and Letha (Neeley) Bland. She was the oldest of seven children. Her parents and step-mother (Hazel Bailey) preceded her in death, as well as two brothers, David Bland and Dolph, Jr. Bland. She is survived by one brother, Charles Bland (and wife Betty) of Toledo, Il; and three sisters, Anita Smith (and husband Loren) of Atwood, Il, Norma Frye of Morton, Il and Lily Vermillion (and husband Bill) of Morton, Il. She married Leon Harrel Peters on March 31, 1944. Her husband preceded her in death in 2007 after 62 years of marriage. They have four children: Leon Junior Peters (and wife Carolyn) of Dahinda, IL; Sandra De Grave of Decatur; David Wayne Peters (and wife Susan) of Florence, SC; Tracy Lee Peters (and wife Joyce) of Decatur; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Ruth worked at the Ettlebrick Shoe Company in Greenup. Il. After marrying and moving to Decatur she was a full-time homemaker devoting her entire life to her children and family. She will be remembered for her many quilts and other beautiful crafts, and missed by all who knew this remarkable and loving women. Services celebrating her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
