Ruth Ellen Portwood, 81, of Decatur went home to heaven January 31, 2010 after a three year battle with Alzheimer.
Funeral service celebrating Ruth’s life will be 10:00 am Friday February 5, 2010 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 ' 7:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Moweaqua. Memorials are suggested to the family or the Macon County Chapter of the Vietnow.
Ruth was born January 1, 1929 in Decatur the daughter of Rev Albert and Pearl Hackney. She married Glenn D. Portwood on Feb 27, 1945. He preceded her in death. She was a Life Associate Member of Macon County Vietnow and Life Member of The Marine Corp League Auxiliary She grew up in Second Church of God.
Attended Foursquare Church and in later years attended CrossPointe Community Church.
Surviving are her children, Glenn H Portwood of Decatur; Charles Valerie Portwood of Edinburg; Jane Ron Squires of Wasola, MO; Ruth Rickey Wakeland of Decatur; Rosemary Kenneth Greenwell of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; Athena Lawrence Moyer and children, Noah, Joshua and Chloe of Blue Mound; Rose Moyer and sons, Reece and Nicholas of Decatur; Alma Guest of Lawrenceburg, IN; Sarah Squires of Wasola, MO; Josiah Greenwell serving in Marine Corps in South Carolina; Zephaniah Chelsea Greenwell and children, Nathanial and Emma of Decatur; Rachel Greenwell of Decatur; Hannah Joshua Osborne and son, Samson of Decatur; Jeremiah Greenwell serving in the Army in South Carolina; Rebekah Ian Sheffer and son, Matthew of Decatur; Leah Greenwell, Caleb Greenwell, Miriam Greenwell and Eve Greenwell all of Decatur; 5 step-grandchildren; Candi Bob Murray and sons, Hubert, TJ and Tyler of Macon; Bill Addison of Decatur; Joshua Teresa Burns and children, Hailey and Skye of Jonesboro, AR; Steve Kim Greenwell and children, Ashly, Zackery, and Matthew of Almonte Springs, FL; Chris Greenwell of Decatur; sisters, Dorothy Bilyeu of Decatur; Flora May Andes of Decatur; Cassondra Harris and chidren Lathan and Alixondra of Taylorville ; Nathanial Angie Harris and son Nicholas of Sherman ; Paul tammy Harter and children Paul Jr and Megan of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a half sister, Mildred Finney.
