Sam Baker's Obituary
Sam Baker, 82, of Decatur, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 in Aspen Ridge Care Centre, Decatur.
Sam was born January 26, 1927, in Brookhaven, MS, the son of Gilbert and Nanny Benson Baker. A member of the Church Of The Living God CWFF, Mr. Baker worked for the Paducah, KY, School District before moving to Decatur and working at Wagner’s. He married Clotel Smith Green and she preceded him in death. He later married Ruth Kizer and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2009. Also preceding him in death are one son, Henry Lee; two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and four brothers.
Surviving is his children: Mae Herman Hamp Fisher of CA; Natalie Baker of IN, Bertie husband, William Young of CA, Theresa Johnson, IN, Ronald wife, Marga Baker of Decatur, Jimmie wife, Ursula Baker of TN, and Constance Renee Gardner of KY; step son, David Parker of Decatur; step daughters: Julia Neal of Decatur, Teresa Gray of OH, and Brenda Parker of Decatur; brothers: Frankie wife, Dorothy Baker of MS, Wilmer Baker of KY, and Gilbert Baker, JR, of MS; sister: Hallie Baker of NY; 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral service: 2 pm Friday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at a later time.
