Sam Vigneri's Obituary
Sam Vigneri, 89, of Pekin formerly of Decatur, died on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Thurs. Feb. 2, 2006 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials: Alzheimer's Assoc. or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Sam was born on May 5, 1916 in Toluca, IL. the son of Joseph and Carmela Bevilaqua Vigneri. He served on the Decatur Fire Department for 10 years and then managed Nellie's Tavern for 42 years. Sam was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, K of C Council#577, and Moose Lodge #684. In his spare time Sam like to hunt and fish. He married Lena Scardello on June 5, 1940 in Decatur.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Lena of Pekin; daughter, Rose Mary husband, David Detweiler of Pekin; son, Dr. Joseph wife, Elizabeth Vigneri of Casper, WY; grandchildren: Dr. Sam wife, Stacia Vigneri, Dr. Bob wife, Katie Vigneri, Joe Vigneri, and Mark Vigneri all of Casper, WY; Adam wife, Tara Detweiler of Bloomington and 9 great grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
