Sandra Jean Leggions' Obituary
Sandra Jean Leggions of Decatur, IL passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 7:04 pm in Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 6, 1948 to the union of Tenia M. Austin- Rice and Willie Austin in St. Louis, MO. She relocated to Decatur in 1950. She was educated in the Decatur School District. She was employed at the Lincoln Manor Nursing Home as “Head Cook” for many years. She was also employed at the Lincoln Developmental Center for many years in Lincoln, IL. She joined the Church of the Living God Temple #2 PGT at an early age where she professed Christ as her savior.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memories two daughters and two sons, Gwennetta J. Leggions, Kristy L. Johnson Andra Jesse Pillow, Jr. and Terrell White all of Decatur, IL. She has seven siblings, three sisters and five brothers, Costella Fryer and Suzy Allston both of Decatur, IL, Regina Douglas of Brownsville, TN; Robert D. Banks of Stanford, TX; Arthur Banks Jr., Darrell Holloway, Garold Holloway all of Decatur, IL; Edward Norma Peters of Brownsville, TN; nine grandchildren, Brandon Sales, Garold Leggions, Sandra Leggions, Kristopher Leggions, Raven Pillow, Jessica Pillow, Vanessa Palmer, Rashaad Pillow and Austin Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Braielle Sales.
Sandra also leaves to cherish her memories a host of aunts, uncles, a very special niece, Sherea James of Decatur, IL; nephews special to her heart Carlous Taylor and Darrell Holloway Jr., two special cousins, Albert Ethellene Hadley and Robert Austin both of Decatur, IL; and a host of additional nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sandra’s closest friends, Dorothy Honorable, Demesho Lovelace, Tracy Robert Crawford and Sheldon Bratcher will share in cherishing the memories of our beloved Sandra Jean Leggions, along with many other friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Aundra L. Holloway; maternal grandparents: Herman and Estella Carroll, and special friends: Juanita Banks and Daisy Sutton.
Sandra was a very pleasant, humorous, and easy to love daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was well known for her generosity, she would go above and beyond to assist family members and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her near and far.
The family humbly expresses true gratitude to the Decatur Memorial Hospital staff that cared for Sandra Jean Leggions during her stay in their medical facility.
Homegoing service celebrating the life of Sandra Jean Leggions will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Church of the Living God Temple #1 PGT with Bishop Thomas Cooper officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
