Selby Junior Hunter's Obituary
Selby Junior Hunter, 84, of Decatur, died at 6:55 am Thursday, April 5, 2007.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Monday, April 9, 2007 at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Private burial will be held. Memorials gifts: St. Mary's Cardiac Rehab Program, of which he was a part of for 15 years.
Selby was born April 28, 1922, in Decatur, the son of Selby T. and Laura E. Grandfield Hunter. He spent his childhood in Macon, IL and served in the Army during WWII as a Corpsman in the European Theatre. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge under the command of General Patton and retired in 1989 from Wallace Laboratories after 40 years. Selby loved to fish, play the guitar, cook, and garden and was an avid wood worker. He spent much of his time making wooden toys to give to the children at St. Mary's Hospital. Selby married Alma L. Gates July 27, 1946 in Pocahontas, AR and she preceded him in death March 21, 1991.
Survivors include his sons: Stephen John Hunter of Los Angeles, CA, and James Dale Hunter of Decatur; daughter, Louisa Marie Hunter of Decatur; faithful companion Chloe'; granddaughter, Tina R. Thompson of Decatur; great grandchildren, Elijah, Rebecca and Daniel Thompson.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; son, Thomas; brothers: Robert and Dale and sister, Ruby Hearn.
