Shirley Vangie Dozier's Obituary
Shirley Vangie Ward-Dozier, 83, of Decatur, peacefully passed away Saturday, November 21st, 2020, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Shirley was born August 1st 1937 in Humboldt, Tennessee and was raised in Trenton Tennessee.
On September 18, 1955, she married the love of her life, Harvey Charles Dozier Sr. She joined the Primitive Baptist Church under the Pastorship of her brother Reverend Irving Ward.
She attended Richland Community College where studied Child Care and Psychology. She worked at Durfee Elementary School as a Teaching Assistant and Anna Water Head Start as a teacher. Then she proudly went on to the Grandparent Program at Robertson Charter School where the students affectionately called her “Grandma Dozier”. She used to teach the children American Sign language. She loved to give of her personal finances to make sure all the children enjoyed the holidays. She treasured the children and enjoyed giving the students rewards for their good behavior.
She enjoyed helping her daughter, the late Missionary Sandra Dozier at Temple 3 with special projects, stage plays, and Vacation Bible School events. She was a dedicated member at the Primitive Baptist Church where she worked closely with her pastor, with the members, and with the youth of the church. She especially loved working on special programs for the Primitive Baptist Association. In her quiet strength, she was a true example of a virtuous women.
She adored her children and grandchildren. She would reach out to her extended family and would even take others into her home and treat them like family. She was an outstanding cook, mother, and teacher. She could put together mechanical objects without a lot of instruction. The bible asks, who can find a virtuous woman? Her price is far above rubies. Shirley Dozier was truly a virtuous, moral, and upright woman as described in the Bible.
Her loving husband went home to be with the Lord just 17 days before she did. They had been married 65 years. She leaves to cherish her fond memories her children Charles (Christine) Matthews , Alice Wadlington, Harvey (Lisa) Dozier, Lloyd (Diona) Dozier, John Dozier, and Lowdoise Dozier, step-children Billy and Judy Matthew. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grand-children, and great-great grandchildren. Furthermore, she leaves several close friends and in- laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shirley Dozier was proceeded in death by her devoted husband, Harvey C Dozier Sr, her loving daughters, Sandra V. Dozier and Kathy Matthews Woodland. She was likewise proceeded in death by her parents Edgar and Vangie Ward, several brothers and sisters, 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild.
A visitation to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 from 12noon-2:00 PM at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Decatur. CDC guidelines will be followed, and face masks are required for those in attendance.
The Dozier family would like to thank the staff of Fair Haven Senior Living Center, the Intensive Care Unit at Decatur Memorial Hospital as well as the Infusion Nursing Staff at St Mary’s Hospital and Dr Kola.
