Shirley Gibisch's Obituary
Shirley Gibisch (nee Klann) passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Primrose Retirement Community in the early morning of June 7, 2026, at the age of 100. She had recently celebrated that big milestone on January 8, 2026, with a big dinner party attended by family and friends.
Born in Chicago on January 8, 1926, to Carl and Selma Klann, she had two older sisters, Grace and Norma.
Shirley was married to her high school sweetheart, James Gibisch, on November 2, 1926, upon his return from the service in World War II. Together they created a loving family with children Sandra and Glenn. They enjoyed taking road trips around the country and spent many sunny days making cherished memories boating, swimming, and fishing and attending numerous school track events. In their later years they especially enjoyed visits from family and keeping up with the great- grandchildren. Shirley became an avid Cubs fan, and her favorite pastime was listening to the game play by play on Cubs radio, as well as music from the past eras.
She was the loving mother of Sandra Weise and Glenn Gibisch (Joanie), cherished grandmother of Kristie Blunck (Jayson), Stephanie Zuniga (Jason), and Kate McGovern (Shane), and great-grandmother of Jacob and Kaden Blunck, Xander and Ben Zuniga, and Raine and Claire McGovern, and fond aunt of Sharon (Bob) Rozycki, Linda Pasma, Phillip (Cheryl) Gibisch, and Jim Gibisch.
A visitation will be held at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe, Decatur, IL on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 1:30 P.M. followed by services at 2:30 P.M. Interment will be at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, 520 E. Grand, Elmhurst IL on Monday (06-15-2026) at 2:00 P.M.
