Sophia P. Jackson's Obituary
Sophia P. Jackson Perry 88 departed this life Wednesday May28, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Sophia was born on June 16, 1936, in Brownsville, Tennessee. The daughter of Lee Andrew Perry and Gertie B. Perkins. Sophia accepted Christ early in her life. She attended The House of Faith, Decatur Illinois and was a longtime member of Trinity CME, Decatur Illinois. Sophia faithfully served on the finance board, assisted with the church’s food pantry and the missionary board.
Former employers were Walrus Welding where she worked for several years and Firestone, where she was the first woman to be hired and worked there for 20 years.
Sophia enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and friends, collecting hats, traveling, and going to church.
Sophia married James Jackson in 1952, to this union 6 children were born, James (deceased), Benjamin (deceased), Frank, Michael, Phyllis, and Sophia.
Sophia is preceded in death by her parents, husband James, sons James and Benjamin, sister Creola Bond, and brother Lee Andrew Perry.
Sophia leaves to cherish her loving memories: son Frank (Arabel) Jackson of Phoenix Arizona, Michael (Desiree) Jackson of Decatur Illinois, Phillis Walker of Decatur Illinois, Sophia (Wayne) Smith of Indianapolis Indiana, sisters Erma Roberson, Edna Palmer, and Gertie Bond all of Decatur Illinois, brothers Henry Perry, Ezekiel Perry, Willy Perry, Joseph Perry of Nashville Tennessee.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday (06-07-2025) at Trinity CME Church, Decatur, IL, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
