Sophie Henseler-Dunnigan's Obituary
Sophie Henseler-Dunnigan, 94, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Sophie was born March 24, 1920 in Soltau, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Dora (Vielgand) Schmidt. She was a member of the International Club, and the German Danke Club in Decatur. Sophie loved knitting and crocheting. Several years ago, she made 70 pairs of hats and mittens for children at Christmas. She married Jacob Henseler, and later James Dunnigan. They both preceded her in death.
Sophie leaves behind her son, Hans (Susan) Henseler of Decatur, IL; Wilfried (Elaine) Henseler of Florida; Irma (Joe) Tolin of New Market, IN; grandchildren, Gretchen (Bob) Murphy; Larry (Jennifer) Meadows; Deanne Henseler; Hans E. (Cathy) Henseler; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Sophie’s life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Rockville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Sophie may be made to the St. Mary’s Foundation.
